The difference between a foulard and other fashion accessories is primarily in the materials. While in English we tend to use one word, scarf, in French the word scarf is in fact rendered by two distinct terms: écharpe and foulard. A foulard is generally fine and light-weight, being made of silk or organic cotton, materials which tend to make for very thin fabric. However, we can still speak of a cashmere foulard as opposed to a cashmere scarf because the feeling against the skin is light-weight, even if it is still made of wool.

Usually, a foulard has smaller dimensions than a scarf, and is generally square or rectangular, between 40cm x 120cm up to 50cm x 180cm. Being made of silk or cotton, it does not retain heat as tightly and thus is better for wearing in transitional seasons like Spring or Summer. It is intended to be worn tied very simply around the neck or head since it is fluid and thin. It is chosen because it is very colorful, for example our monochrome silk foulards, which come in a large variety of color choices, or our silk duos, with specially curated pairings of printed motifs with a monochrome foulard, a very special blend.
