Silk scarves are much simpler to take care of than most people think. In fact, silk is an elegant, natural material, and all you need to do is take a few precautions to be able to wash your own scarf or silk muslin at home.

Taking your muslin silk to the dry cleaner’s

Dry cleaning is obviously a very good way to easily maintain your silk scarf, though you have to check the care label to see what is allowed so as not to make any mistakes. For all the silk scarves that you can find on Fabrique d’écharpe’s website, hand washing is allowed and if you follow just a few tips of ours, it’s child’s play! Economical and environmentally-friendly, you can easily take care of your silk items yourself at home.

Wash your silk scarves by hand

Whether your foulard is printed or plain, it can be washed by hand.

To do this, simply fill a basin with cold water and add a little Marseille soap (or any other gentle soap that is intended for delicate fabrics, look at the instructions on the soap). Then immerse your scarf in the slightly soapy water and let it soak for a few moments. If your scarf is a bit on the dirty side, you can move it around slowly in the water to remove any blemishes. Rinse in cold water without twisting the fabric so as not to break the fibers. Finally, all you have to do is lay your stole flat and wait for it to dry.

How to iron a silk scarf

A fundamental step in taking care of a silk scarf is ironing. Usually after washing, when silk dries it gets wrinkly and loses its shine. The trick to restoring it to its full splendor is to iron it while it’s still damp, doing this will yield perfect results. Use an iron on low heat so as not to burn the fabric. To be even more on the safe side, put a white cloth between the silk fabric and the iron so there will be no risk to your scarf! Follow these very simple steps to make your silk scarf elegant and silky again!

Silk scarves and static electricity

An easy trick to remove the static electricity from a silk scarf

Silk and especially chiffon can become very easily charged with static electricity and sometimes it becomes impossible to wear or even fold it for storage. Static electricity on silk very often is the result of a slight thermal shock to the fabric, sometimes entering a very heated room when coming from outside can do it, and this phenomenon can be very unpleasant. Here is a very simple trick to rid your silk stole of its electricity: All you have todo is hang it up overnight in an unheated room, and the next day it will have regained its softness and its silky drape!

Now that you know how to take care of your silk scarf, all you have to do is choose yours from our collections of silk scarves made in France!
