How to wear a stole over a dress at a wedding

The stole: large format scarves
The stole, derived from the Latin word stola meaning long dress, is a piece of fabric worn over the shoulders.
When the stole is a fashion accessory, it is essentially a large scarf: its dimensions vary between 60cm (23.62in) and 1m (39.37in) in width, and 180cm (70.86in) to 2.5m (98.42in) in length. You can get light-weight stoles, like in chiffon, or heavier ones in cotton/silk, wool/silk or cashmere/silk blends.
The difference between other scarves
Thanks to its large format, a stole can be worn and tied in many different ways. Thus, it can embellish a tight-fitting evening dress, a strapless dress, a sleeveless or sleeveless dress, a short dress or long dress.
Stoles are rectangular in shape, so are much easier to wear than a square, and offer you more versatile possibilities.
How to wear a stole for a wedding

Choose based on your outfit
Choose how to tie your stole based on the shape of the dress you are wearing:
For a strapless dress, it’s best to throw the stole carelessly over your shoulders, a very glamorous way to highlight your figure!
For a dress with sleeves, arrange your stole in the crook of your arms and let it fly!
With a low-cut dress, you can tie it at chest level!
For a printed dress with sandals, dare to wear it as a belt!
On a short sleeveless dress with high heels, try a big bow tie! On a long cocktail dress, make a turn of the neck and the two sides that come back in front! You can also try tying it around your handbag, putting it in your hair…everything is allowed! Let your creative juices flow with this one!
Be careful brides! Remember to match your stole to your dress, so if your dress is white, pair it with a white stole, but if your dress is ivory, accessorize it with an ivory stole.
For the bridesmaids, you can choose the same stole for each bridesmaid, and use the stole as what unifies the bridesmaids, even if they don’t all have the same outfit. Alternatively, you can choose different shades of the same color to create a chic, trendy effect.
Follow the theme
You are invited to a wedding. The first thing thing to do is consult with the bride and groom to find out the theme of their celebration.
Your accessories can be an important way to make yourself fit in better with their theme. Think about it, you wouldn’t wear the same accessories for a glamorous theme, a country theme, or a “princess” or “vintage” style wedding. The effect just wouldn’t be the same, so be sure to know what you need to dress for.
Take into account the colors of your dress. If it is plain with one or two colors, you have two solutions: either go with a classic chic look and pair your dress with a plain scarf in a neutral color; alternatively you can choose a contrasting color, or make yourself more elegant by pairing your dress with a patterned stole.

Dress for the weather
The material of your stole will depend a lot on the season of your event. Summer being the favorite season for weddings, you will obviously want a silk stole, with chiffon being the perfect material.
