You love scarves, and scarves are super trendy fashion accessories. But maybe you’re not quite sure how to tie a scarf. Don’t worry—we’ll show you how to look effortlessly stylish with your favorite scarf and tie this must-have accessory with flair!
Scarves are full-fledged fashion accessories and how you wear one can say a lot about you. The way you tie it can completely transform your outfit and overall look. It’s not just about picking the right scarf—it’s about wearing it in a way that’s practical, trendy, and aligned with your fashion sense.
We’ve all been there: your scarf hangs awkwardly around your neck or doesn’t quite match your outfit, leaving you feeling less than stylish. Sure, it’s warm, but in the style department? Not so much. But, with a few easy tips, you can combine warmth and style effortlessly. French scarf is here to help with step-by-step guidance and five great ways to tie your scarf and stay chic this winter—all while staying warm!
The first way of wearing a scarf is very easy: the simple loop. Just wrap the scarf around your neck once, letting both ends hang down in the front. Make sure the ends are even. You can keep it loose around your neck (see the Atome scarf) or tug it closer to your neck to stay warm (see the Esprit scarf). You can even tie the two ends together for a knotted look (see the Lotus scarf). This last option is perfect for winter, keeping your neck well-protected from the chill. This is one everyday way to wear a scarf for a look that’s both classic and timeless.

The Parisian knot is a quick and effective way to tie your scarf. Start by folding the scarf in half, base to base. Once it’s around your neck, pass both ends through the loop you’ve created, then tighten the knot by pulling on both ends. The resulting knot is very stable, fully adjustable, and easy to make and undo. It’s chic, elegant, and keeps you warm when tightened close to the neck. Check out a few examples of stylish scarves tied with a Parisian knot: the Paisley scarf for a chic and elegant look, the Melbourne scarf for Parisian trendiness and guaranteed comfort, and the Passion stole for a refined winter look.

The wrapped knot is created by wrapping the scarf several times around the neck, creating a thick volume around the neck until the ends disappear. Typically, you’ll need a large scarf, such as an oversized piece made of wool. This is a knot that’s perfect for winter sports or country outings. Perfect for protecting against the cold, it gives you a cozy look. It’s a great way to make a statement with a warm, wintery style.

For this modern style, it’s best to choose a scarf that’s flowing, large in size, or even an oversized scarf for a more dramatic effect. Drape the stole over your shoulders, with one long end and one shorter end at the front, and toss the longer end over your back to create a beautiful draped look. This will give you a casual trendy look with cozy results. Another version of the draped style is simply placing the stole over your shoulders and letting both ends hang freely in the front. This is the more classic shawl style.

The crossed knot, also called the “pretzel knot,” is a variation on the Parisian knot. It holds up very well and is especially suited for scarves made of cotton, or cotton-silk blends, or even wool and silk, as the fabric needs to have a certain weight. This knot is very well-suited for men because it’s so stable and will hold together throughout the day. It also adds a sophisticated touch to your look. You’ll notice that not many people wear an elegant scarf with a crossed knot—it’s a very original way to tie a scarf!
But how to do it ? It’s not complicated ! Fold the scarf in half, base to base, place the scarf around your neck, pass the first end under the loop, then pass the second end over the loop. Adjust the knot by pulling on both ends.

There are even more ways to tie and wear a scarf, so be creative and create a knot that reflects your personality and express your own original and authentic style. Discover more ideas on our blog: How to Tie a Scarf ?
If you prefer a simple knot like the simple loop or the Parisian knot, you’ll need a scarf that is somewhat thick and woolly, with a width between 50-70 cm and a length of over 180 cm. This will allow you to easily create the simple loop, the knotted simple loop, and the Parisian knot. Browse through our pages!
If you like a sophisticated style, the crossed knot is perfect, as it stays securely in place even when you move around. For this knot, choose a scarf that’s narrower (between 40-60 cm) and a bit thicker, so that the knot’s shape is clearly visible. The length here should be classic, between 180 cm and 2 m.
If you’re into the draped style, you absolutely need to choose a scarf with large dimensions: 80-100 cm in width and 190-200 cm in length. A maxi stole made of wool and silk is perfect to wrap around you and easily create a beautiful draped look. A large square scarf can also work, with sides of 130 to 150cm. You should then fold it into a triangle and throw the point over your back, bringing the other two ends to the front.
If you’re a fan of the wrapped knot, choose a long and thick scarf. The fabric shouldn’t be slippery so that the scarf stays in place around your neck. A snood scarf is specially designed for the wrapped knot.
Gentlemen : Men often prefer tucking the ends of their scarves into their jackets or coats, wearing them close to the neck for a chic everyday look! Classic patterns can make a beautiful statement, or if you’re feeling more adventurous: cashmere pieces with small floral motifs can be a great choice, while checkered patterns like Burberry are perfect for lovers of British style!
Ladies : If you choose a simple scarf, you can also accessorize it to make it more feminine. A small, original brooch—subtle or bold, vintage or with a message—can take your scarf to the next level. Brooches are making a comeback on scarves and coats! Of course, you can also choose to match the scarf with you gloves, hat, or even shoes.
Today, the scarf market is huge, with scarves available in all sizes, materials, and colors. French scarf offers a collection of original scarves where you’re sure to find the perfect one for your style, made in France, and keeping with the latest trends.
